I’m playing catch up a little bit here but when you have your two and half year old niece saying “Uncle Ace hold you” (translated - “Uncle Ace please hold me”) then you say the only thing there is to say, “of course, whatever you want”. On top of that getting to hang out with my brother and sister-in-law and adventuring in the mountains...yeah...there’s no chance I am going to sit down and write about the happenings, thoughts, and whatever else I end up spilling through these pages. But now...now that I have camp set up in Medicine Bow with the backdrop of the mountains and their glaciers just waiting to be strengthened again by the coming winter, I can write.
Colorado was amazing. Mostly for the reasons above. Family is so important, and making time to be with them is food for the soul. Sure they can be difficult some times (not my family of course...haha!) but they are a huge part of who you are and hopefully if yours is anything like mine, your biggest fans as well.
Hiking up to Emmaline Lake up the canyon about an hour and forty-five minutes from Fort Collins was beautiful! Truly the perfect way to start the trip. I’m super blessed to have the brother I do. I can’t put into words what his friendship means to me and how he encourages me, laughs with me, laughs AT me, adventures with me, and yada yada yada, the list goes on. But that said, time with him is always a gift and thank goodness he loves the outdoors as much as I do. To think there was a time he wasn’t a camper...wow. I guess the little brother has to show the older brother what’s cool sometimes. I caught my first green back cutthroat trout on that trip. And to make sure I checked it off my box I caught another.
But other than that, time with the family at the river was special and of course being able to wake up and see them in the morning is always a great start to the day. The real “off the beaten path” portion of the Colorado trip is yet to come. I’ll catch it on the way back. So, until then CO...don’t run off anywhere, I have more to explore with you.
